JR Engineering served as the Site Civil Engineer and Surveyor for the planning, design and construction of offender recreation yards at Colorado’s super-max facility in Canon City. In addition to the yards the complex also added a new visitor’s gate house that needed to be retrofit into the existing entry walk.

The facility, as originally constructed, was secure within the building’s walls. Adding outdoor recreation yards created the issue of moving the security from the building walls to a new perimeter fence. Design of the recreation yards, gate house, fencing and perimeter patrol road required innovation due to the security constraints associated with a super max facility. There are numerous utility relocations and drainage improvements associated with the design

JR is currently providing surveying and construction support services for the project. The bulk of the labor for the improvements is being provided by offender labor crews.
