JR Engineering prepared the full bid documents, including design, plans, and specifications, for the North Recreation Path project in Vail, Colorado. The project design included approximately 3,300 linear feet of asphalt trail, a new pedestrian bridge crossing Gore Creek, ADA-compliant access, driveway replacements, retaining wall design and replacement, minor drainage structures, pedestrian detour plans, a new bus stop pull-off and pad, and erosion control measures.
Pedestrian Bridge & Trail Improvements
A key component of the project was the design of a new pedestrian bridge over Gore Creek to improve connectivity along the recreation path. JR coordinated with structural subconsultant San Engineering on the bridge design and its integration with the surrounding trail improvements. The design effort included consideration of bridge approaches, trail alignment, grading, and ADA accessibility to provide a continuous pedestrian connection. JR also addressed site constraints, utility conflicts, and drainage considerations associated with the trail corridor.
Design & Agency Coordination
JR completed the topographic survey, trail design, utility locating, and drainage analysis in-house, while San Engineering provided structural bridge design services. The project scope also included right-of-way research, identification of underground utilities, and coordination of necessary utility relocations. JR developed design plans through the 30%, 95%, and final design milestones, including specifications, cost estimates, and stamped construction documents.
A portion of the project received federal funding, requiring compliance with applicable CDOT and federal standards. JR's responsibilities included preparation of the CDOT Special Use Permit package and incorporation of agency comments into the final design documents.
