JR Engineering prepared the design for the South Beaver Creek Road rehabilitation project, which serves as a critical collector corridor between State Highway 119 and State Highway 72 and serves many residential properties in the County.  The existing unpaved roadway is built along Beaver Creek, crossing the creek multiple times throughout its approximately 5-mile length. The project scope included roadway reconstruction, pavement analysis, soft spot mitigation and repair, floodplain evaluation, and storm sewer pipe replacement, underdrain design, public involvement, and traffic control solutions.

Roadway Rehabilitation & Design Challenges

The critical issues within the site include roadway soft spots caused by a combination of organic materials and high groundwater, failing drainage pipes/culverts, snow and icing issues, speeding and safety concerns, vehicle rideability, and limited public right-of-way.  JR Engineering was tasked with providing Gilpin County with a design that improves the roadway and drainage functionality while also balancing costs and impacts to private residents and the creek and floodplain.  The project also required major coordination with the adjacent property owners and presentations and coordination with the county commissioners.

Project Coordination & Construction Documents

JR Engineering prepared full construction drawings, specifications and cost estimates to be utilized for bidding purposes.  JR also conducted the survey, utility locations, hydraulic and floodplain analysis, and public meetings using our in-house personnel.
