Hydrologic Modeling · Hydraulic Analysis · Culvert Evaluation · Watershed Analysis · Phased Infrastructure Planning
JR Engineering performed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for the City of Brighton's Phase II Culvert Project, a continuation of the 2012 Brighton Watershed/South Platte River Outfall Systems Planning Amendment. The 2012 project evaluated the Brighton South Outfall watershed. It led to the design and construction of channel and culvert infrastructure, which was scaled back due to limited development within the basin. The intent was to revisit the watershed analysis as development progressed.
Updated Hydrologic Modeling
In 2022, the City of Brighton initiated the Phase II Culvert Project to address updated watershed conditions driven by new development, changes to detention plans, and revised hydrologic assumptions. JR Engineering updated the original 2012 hydrologic modeling using as-built development data provided by the City, establishing new design flow rates for five incremental development phases within the watershed.
Culvert Capacity & Hydraulic Analysis
Hydraulic analyses were conducted for the Outfall’s crossings at Sable Blvd., Chambers Road, Fulton Ditch, and 19th Avenue, which incorporated the “Phase I” culverts installed in 2012. The analyses evaluated the need for additional barrels at each culvert crossing based on updated flow rates and determined when additional capacity would be necessary during future development. The design ensured appropriate headwater depths and velocities were maintained. The results were compiled into a comprehensive Culvert Analysis and Hydraulic Report submitted to the City, providing clear guidance for phased infrastructure improvements.
