BRIGHTON CORE CITY PHASE III WATERLINE

Location
Brighton, CO
Client
Brighton Utilities Department
Services
Water Main Design · Utility Replacement · SUE · Surveying
The existing potable water mains within the core city of Old Town Brighton are deteriorating, so the City of Brighton Utilities Department opted to remove the existing water lines and replace them with PVC pipes and new structures. The existing water lines were constructed decades ago, so the infrastructure was frequently failing and in need of improvements.
Aging Infrastructure Replacement
The Brighton Core City Phase 3 Water Replacement Project involves removing and replacing approximately 4,200 linear feet of ductile iron and cast iron potable water mains along 4th Avenue between Bromley Lane and Skeel Street, including dozens of service line replacements and reconnections. All existing water mains will be upsized to a minimum of 8 " pipe.
SUE, Survey & Phase Design
JR Engineering prepared the construction plans for the project and provided construction oversight assistance as well. For the Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE), JR Engineering teamed with T2 Utility Engineers for QL-B and prepared the QL-A SUE plans/report in-house. JR Engineering also provided survey control for the SUE, as well as a topographic and boundary survey for the water line replacement project. The water mains supply potable water to approximately 77 homes and businesses within the project limits. The existing water lines will be replaced in several phases to minimize outages for Brighton Water’s customers. A new parallel line was designed to be constructed, while the existing main line will remain in place and be abandoned upon switching over to the new system.
The water services will be replaced if the existing material is anything other than copper, and all other service lines will be connected to the new mains. The open trenches in the streets will be patched as the water line is installed, and 4th Avenue will be reconstructed as part of Brighton’s asphalt replacement program.
Construction Documents & Cost Estimating
JR Engineering prepared custom technical specifications for the work as well as a cost estimate and bid schedule. JR Engineering completed the Core City Phase 3 Waterline Replacement Project design on time and under budget.
